2012 IN PRACTICE

Imagine if every person with the means to do so (that's probably at least 4 billion people) used a little time each day of 2012, to connect with something in the larger swirling universe that we call home.

This project recognises that collective action is where the change occurs but this isn't about trying to move mountains - it's about taking a little time each day to enjoy your home - Planet Earth.

There's a current craze where people take a photo of themself every day of the year and post it online. I thought this was pretty pointless and considered that energy could be used in much more dynamic ways - so I started this project. I was inspired by my friend Jo Tito who hand painted a rock every day of 2011 - it was an incredibly rich project that touched many people - check it out  http://www.handpaintedrocks.com/

I'm committing to 'writing magic into water' every day of 2012 and I'll post my efforts here. You're welcome to join and post stories about your own daily practice - it can be anything about your connection to the bigger world. Here's some ideas (if you need a spark of imagination):

  • pulling a weed out a day
  • picking up a piece of rubbish daily
  • taking a photo of an ant
  • getting to know the plants in your neighborhood (weeds & endemic)
  • beating a drum for 10 minutes
  • clapping your hands for five minutes (it's meant to be haelthy for the fairy folk)
  • not accepting plastic bags when shopping
  • swimming (a boy committed to surfing everyday regardless of the conditions)
  • daydreaming 15 minutes a day about a healthy environmental future
  • drawing a picture of the view out your kitchen window
  • gorilla gardening with native plants
  • visiting a retirement home for a chat
  • tell a joke
  • learn your local Aboriginal language
  • smell a flower
  • smile at the clouds and wait for them to smile back

Make it achievable - something that you could do anywhere and something you will enjoy (even if it requires a little discipline)! It's about taking the time to give and connect - and it will feel fantastic!

STORYTELLING DIRECTIONS:If you'd like to join the project and share what you are doing then you'll need to join place stories (it's free). Once you've joined click on the green 'stories' tab above. The green menu bar will give you options for creating a new story. Use any format you'd like to tell your story (pictures, words, video, sound etc).
