The National Rural Assembly will host a National Rural Youth Assembly on April 22-25, 2010, at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. Fifty-three young adults representing 28 states will serve as delegates at the national gathering. These youth will gather to discuss the issues they see as critical to their lives and communities.
The delegates, who range in rage from 18 to 25, were selected by a national search committee based on the young person's interest in rural issues, investment of time and energy in his or her community, and the recommendation of a sponsoring organization.
The Rural Youth Assembly will engage these young people on the key principles of the National Rural Assembly, including the quality of education, stewardship of our natural resources, investment in our communities, and the health of rural people. The participants represent the diversity of rural America in geographies, race, cultures, genders, incomes and sexual orientations.
